We’ve officially launched our website! Please check us out-
Tryouts/Schedule
We’ll be having weekly team workouts that will serve as extended tryouts. Since we’re in an area where there hasn’t been a team before We felt it was important to give everyone a chance to get a feel for it and start to feel like it’s something they can do.
These workouts are open and you are all encouraged to invite friends or frenemies who you think would be interested. We’ll be focusing on condition and agility. No cleats required!
We’ll be meeting on Saturdays @ William Byrd Park (Shields Lake Dr & Amelia) – 9 am. You can find details on our Facebook and our Meetup. We ask that you RSVP on either so we can properly plan the workout schedule. As always, you’re welcome to contact me with any questions you might have.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT…
It’s common for people to look at me quizzically when I mention women’s football. They doubt that it’s “a thing”, that it’s “real”. It is both and MORE. Just a few weeks ago the Pittsburgh Passion defeated the Utah Falconz for the IWFL Championship. Here’s the video – Pittsburgh Passion v Utah Falconz This weekend the Dallas Elite will take on the DC Divas for the WFA Championship. It’ll be an amazing display of the talent in women’s football today. While I haven’t been able to find details about watching it online, I expect it to be available somehow.
First TEAM Meeting!
If you’re interested in playing, or are interested in more information, please join us at the VCC Red Robin @ 4pm on August 15th. We’ll be meeting to talk about the next step and what to do while we’re gathering more interest. Hope to see you there!
STILL LOOKING!
We’re still looking to get this started. Don’t worry! If you are interested in playing, or know someone who is, please have them get in touch with me at rvablackwidows@gmail.com and we’ll set up a group meeting. Until we get enough to field a full team, we can at least get in some good workouts!
Looking for players!!
Let’s bring women’s football to RVA!!
If you’re like me, you’ve always loved football but either never thought you could or were never given the opportunity. You might have even played with the boys for a while. You probably never knew that we have our own leagues where women not only play the game but OWN it!
Last summer I was lucky enough to be chosen out of 200 women to be one of the 45 who were chosen to represent our country in the IFAF Women’s World Championship.
To see the IFAF gold medal game of USA v CAN

I’d like to start up a team down here since I’ve moved to a city which doesn’t already have a women’s team. If you’re interested, contact me. We’ll be needing women to fill ALL positions on the field. Keep in mind that we will need ALL body types – big girls who can move, little girls who can fly, medium girls who can hit, etc. Some sports experience is helpful but not required.
